This bag just makes sense.
Usually I end up frustrated with backpacks that are either too unstructured to stay organized, or else covered in various pockets that I don't need and end up spending extra time rummaging around for where I put something. And don't get me started on straps hanging down waiting to get caught on things. This backpack has remedied all of these things while also being super sustainable and super cool looking! Very thoughtfully designed.
I don't carry a ton from day to day - at most I have a wallet, phone, earbuds, notebook, water bottle, e-reader, masks, lotion, lip balm, meds, floss, and assorted hair containment devices. Everything fits just right in the small size pack with room to spare for a scarf or sweater, snacks, what have you. I got the bundle with the cord pouch and use that for all the personal care items which keeps them tidy and easy to grab.
I bought the all black Nocturnal colorway and I love the contrast with the white lining. I had read some reviews about fluff/lint sticking to the bag easily and while it's somewhat true, I've had bags with a much much worse tendency to accumulate cat hair, fuzz, etc. I once had a bag made with waxed canvas that was really smooth which I liked - this is closer to a Cordura texture, which is great too but a bit less hair resistant than what you might think of when you hear "waxed canvas" imo.
The only things I would personally improve is making the chimney and side pocket both a tiny bit larger. I have a 24oz Owala water bottle (around 710ml) and I'm not able to zip it all the way in because the lid is a bit wide but the chimney pocket starts to narrow toward the top. As for the side pocket, I have an iPhone 12 Mini in a thin case with a Pop Socket on the back and it's quite snug in the side pocket, but it does fit. Perhaps if I had gotten the large size pack it wouldn't be an issue, but either way I still love my Day Owl backpack and see myself carrying it for a long time! And if you ever make a crossbody/sling/fanny pack, let me know...
