I'm a DIYer replacing a worn out and bent 3500 lb axle on an Airstream Bambi. I asked Gabe if I could order a heavier 5000 lb axle and he said yes but didn't recommend it due to several unforeseen issues he heard from past customers. So I ordered a Dexter (Airstream OEM)
axle per the original specs. It arrived assembled greased and ready to install in less than 4 weeks. I used a jack to coax the axle into place because my trailer frame was also bent as shown in photos, but it fit perfectly once in place. I decided to bolt a stiffener tube to each side of the axle for the added strength and I added custom stiffener plates to the trailer frame (red plates in photos) and lift block plus two additional mounting bolts. It was a lot of work for the added the strength I wanted but that was all trailer mods, not axle mods. I’ll definitely order from Southwest again.
