My partner and I were in your establishment recently and were served by an employee with the name “Lee”. I just want to tell someone that he was incredibly helpful and thorough in helping us where our placotomous is concerned. We acquired the fish second hand 20 years ago, so he’s very important to us. Welcoming, knowledgable staff

I always enjoy visiting the big Al's mississauga location. The staff are always very welcoming and help me with any questions I have. The only concern I might have is about the recommended betta care, but they're only sharing information thats common knowledge, not correct information. Most staff are very receptive when I ask to clarify some knowledge I have.

My First Experience with Big Al's Pets

The follow review is a truly honest & fair assessment of my personal experience in dealing with Big Al's Pets. I hope it serves as one man's experience in dealing with the fine folks I've encountered. Several Weeks back, my partner brought home a fish in what (to me) amounted to a small cup or vase, which while cute - annoyed the heck out of me as a human being, just looking at this poor little fishie (a Betta to be exact) being subject to this drinking glass of a home. Me being me, sprung into action, first by researching what would be a sufficient and reasonable sized tank for a Betta fish, after which the first course of action I took was to purchase the Fluval Flex 9 gallon tank, that I felt reasonably assured would provide not only enough tank space for "Nemo" (our new pet) to enjoy and thrive in, in addition to a very neat & simple filtration & tank media support system which would make tank cycles and changes easy & straightforward so even a newbie fish owner such as myself could handle with ease. While researching the tank to find a suitable solution, one name kept popping up in many of the forums and searching I was performing, that being: Big Al's Pets ! So, naturally I clicked on one of the links that displayed while next reviewing some options for tankscape accessories and various accessories. Immediately I found the layout of the site to be neat, very easy to navigate and search for items that I was interested in, and having bookmarked the site to return later on after performing some price comparison searches, I then returned back to bigalspets.com to check out and complete my initial purchase of tank accessories I desired to enhance Nemo's tank to make sure my new family member had an engaging environment to enjoy and thrive in (places to hide, plants swim around & play with, proper aeration, and such. While tooling around on the site and reviewing various policies and reading things, I also learned of Big Al's Youtube Channel featuring Thomas & the "Keep On Tankin" series, which I immediately began viewing previous episodes which have provided a great deal of insights on a HUGE VARIETY of aquarium topics, but I was fortunate the first weekend I checked out the channel, there was a live broadcast of "Ask Us Anything" (with Brian & Thomas) which I found to be AMAZING! These guys are VERY Informative and engaging, down to earth, & enjoyable to both watch and listen to with their insights and knowledge, but even more importantly - the questions and comments posted by viewers in the channel are equally as entertaining and enjoyable to digest as well. Frankly, this is the perfect use of "Youtube" and why I tend to visit that portal on occasion, for this type of informative, educational & engaging info-tainment, I was so happy to partake in that experience, I even received a "shout out" from both Brian & Thomas, so I was quite honored. Overall, I'm VERY IMPRESSED with the quality of the products I selected and the speed in which the items I bought shipped. Everything I ordered from a back up pump, to various tank ornaments, and a supply of Fluval tank media to ensure I'm well stocked for future tank changes for the foreseeable future were packed well, arrived in brand new condition, and to top it off, they even have a points-purchase program where by when you buy items directly from the site, you receive reward points you can apply for future purchases which is a welcome bonus (especially since the liklihood of supporting my little Nemo and eventually likely some of his tank friends down the line) I'll be finding myself going back to Big Al's to shop for additional supplies and accessories. I did have two occasions to directly interact with the folks at Big Al's, once by email, which I received a prompt response the same day (in response to clarifying an order I had just placed) and another time when I called them up to discuss some details about a back up pump for the tank I bought (which, for the record, I did NOT purchase through Big Al's, YET- They were not only willing & accommodating to discuss the matter with me, but the kind gentleman I managed to get on the line, even pointed me to a video on their channel (& get this - right down to the time-frame reference on the particular video!) that happened to have featured the tank I bought, and had me visually confirm the piece I was attempting to describe to him - WOW! that blew me away, and made me realize I hit the Golden Goose of Pet Care people to deal with, because they really DID go out of their way to provide me a very thorough and comprehensive answer to my question, but even suggested I reach out to Fluval afterwards, explain to them the part I needed, and perhaps they would even (as a favor) just ship me that item gratis, since it really wasn't a big part, and they've been known to do things like that for their customers. Guess what? - THEY DID! So, again - Big Al's customer care scored another BullsEye with me for providing some right on guidance in helping me achieve what I was looking for, and not knocking me for being a newbie fish fancier, nor trying to take advantage of my ignorance on the lingo. I can't recommend these folks enough, I not only have shopped several times since my initial purchase, but pretty much find myself browsing their site every couple of days just to amuse myself and see what possible items are likely to be procured down the line to keep my new family pet happy & healthy, and provide me with the satisfaction of knowing I'm doing all I can to keep his tank properly both by ensuring it's tested properly for water, the scenery changes every so often so he doesn't get bored, and oh- I've also bought some betta food from Big Al's as well which Nemo seems to enjoy, as well as a vacation food feeder which I feel will be perfect for when I'm away for a week or so, and rather than use those dis-solvable bricks that just sit in a tank and essentially pollute the water (and, for Betta's are pretty much useless anyway, as my Nemo prefers floating foods!) the item I bought (the: Zoo Med Bettamatic Automatic Daily Betta Feeder) is just perfect! and very reasonably priced *even comes with a supply of food included! I honestly can't rave enough about my experience with learning about and then shopping with Big Al's Pets. Obviously I took the time to write these honest assessments of their website, service & support, and the quality of the items I received are brand new, & I've found to be of high quality. Bottom line: If you're looking for a Top-Notch, High Quality online Pet Store Resource that caters to many Pet Needs, this is one VERY HAPPY & SATISFIED shopper and now Big Al's advocate who gives them 5-STARS and 2-Thumbs Up! Thank You folks, it's been a long time since I've experienced the kind of friendly support and interaction experience I received from you folks, and you've made me a customer for life!
