My partner found this set
My partner found this set online. I wasn't very keen. It looked a bit flimsy and looked pretty cheap. Thought it was a very low price too, made me a bit suspicious. I started measuring swings in local parks with my strides and started to imagine big plans to build a set myself from scratch (proper job with massive poles and massive bolts). We haven't long till our second child is here, really pushed for time, and my wife talked me out of it. Built this set of swings yesterday. Wow, really surprised how great it is! Really strong. Instructions were pretty rubbish, but if you have good basic DIY experience, it's all easy to work out (I haven't checked, maybe they have videos on the website?). Don't think it was mentioned in the instructions, but I thought drilling some small pilot holes worked well before putting coach bolts in, didn’t want to stress the wood too much. Using a level worked well over the top pole, had to dig in one side a bit to get it level. I tried to save some money and got stakes from Toolstation (for securing sleepers), but I had to modify with an angle grinder and drill new holes, so maybe not worth the effort? But def need some stakes to make it secure. I had some post-concrete to hand but didn’t use in the end, stakes hold it in really well in place. I considered putting concrete around posts so they don’t rot too soon, but it's not really worth the hassle. When they do rot, you could simply unbolt and replace the poles.
Our 3. 5-year-old loves it, getting plenty of swing out of it.
Really glad I didn't build my own one, I tend to over-engineer things, would have taken me 5 weeks, cost about £500 and likely looked like something designed in 1960’s Soviet Union. Phew.
Fast postage, great service all round.
