Ms Stormshadow Parka

Ms Stormshadow Parka

One of our warmest parkas, the hooded Stormshadow Parka is waterproof and insulated with 700-fill-power 100% Recycled Down (a blend of duck and goose down and waterfowl feathers reclaimed from down products). The adjustable hood, cinchable waist and brushed tricot-lined pockets add warmth and comfort. Phone pockets inside the handwarmer pockets and a zippered chest pocket that’s accessed without unzipping the parka also help conserve heat. Built from premium 100% recycled GORE-TEX ePE face fabric, which is partially made from BIONIC® recycled coastal and marine plastic sourced in Costa Rica, the fabric, membrane and DWR finish are made without intentionally added PFAS. Made in a Fair Trade Certified™ factory.

Killer Parka

Having owned a number of Patagonia's more 'casual' / less technical parkas (Thundercloud, Isthmus, Fitz Roy, etc.) I have to say the Stormshadow gets about everything right. For starters, it's roomy, providing adequate space for bulkier sub-layers and stowable items like gloves, beanies, water bottles, etc.. The GORE-TEX PFC-free membrane is surprisingly softer and quieter than what I've grown accustomed to. That being said, and having not yet tested it extreme lows, it appears tough, durable, and capable. The only semi-cons are 1). the overall width / scale of the storm flap and 2). the interior lining of the coat, which isn't as forgiving or passable as some of Patagonia's other products. Overall: 4.9/10. You won't be disappointed.

Super warm and durable

This is the pinnacle winter parka Patagonia has been working towards! Big step up over other winter parkas I’ve tried from other outdoor brands both in warmth and durability. Also fit and function is spot on. Simple but has everything you need

Warm and Comfortable, just a bit short

This is a great option for a warm coat for extreme cold. I often find that Patagonia medium is a bit too small and large is way too big. Medium in this parka fits just right, with adequate room for layering. The cut allows for active movement and the build seems typical Patagonia robust. I do wish the coat was a bit longer in the body. As is, it’s not quite long enough to cover past my hips, but too long to not ride up if I’m seated or in a car. The women’s version has a longer hem that would be welcome on the men’s version.

Very good jacket that could be great

As others have said the quality and durability of this jacket is notable and it’s very warm-I just spent an hour walking around Minneapolis in -10F and I was toasty inside this mobile sleeping bag. Nice big quality zipper, warm pockets, great storm flaps, surprisingly light for a big puffy jacket. If I could suggest one significant improvement it would be to make the jacket longer so that it covers the butt. I’m not tall at 5 11’, 175 lbs and got the large but it still rides up to the top of my butt when I bend over or adopt a ski stance. The butt gets cold on benches or while skiing and worse gets wet with rain. My old 1998 Patagonia guide parka covers the butt. One other small thing is the neck could be a little higher to cover the chin and perhaps a neck synch would be good as there’s a gap here where cold can get in. Other than that I’m happy with it and would recommend. Spendy but a well made quality jacket that delivers overall.
