I have recently changed to VOOM bars as gels just weren’t working for me. At a recent 5km swim, I planned to take half a bar at the feed station 2. 5km in. Not only was it as easy to eat as a gel, there was no faffing with the wrapper. The bar was quick and tasty to eat and when the caffeine kicked in, it carried me to a 5km PB.
