I bought the MM-100s late
I bought the MM-100s late in the summer thinking that would be the last pair of headphones I buy (i had 17 at the time). I was completely blown away by the build quality when i first picked them up (and every time after), like taking a second look at a really good cheeseburger after the first bite. Sound quality is fantastic too; neutral tuning with great detail retrieval. Audeze bass has a certain quality to it as well; a quickness that you just don't hear, even in other planars. In November I see the Black Friday Special go up, see there are a pair of LCD2Cs available as B-Stock at $399 and start doing some research. The research was a split; some people thought they are too dark, some people love them. I took the leap and they arrived about a week later. They came with the hard carrying case, which I wasn't expecting, and another great set of wires terminating to an XLR. Blown away, again, the first time I held them. Heavy in the hand but not on the head, Just top notch craftmanship. Doesn't seem like you can swap out the pads, which you probably won't need to do, anyway. No blemishes at all, either. I am partial to tube amps but have solid state as well. Where the MM-100 sounds neutral with a little bit of sparkle up top (can be a little shouty depending on the source), the LCD2Cs just sound musical. Dark but not veiled by any means, they reach for detail just as well as the MMs do, and better than any other headphone I own, and do so without any bite. The warmth contributes to these sounding fuller than my other headphones as well; everything that should pluck, sound like a pluck. Reverberation crystal clear without being crystalline. And the bass, the bass. . . , with my Douk H2, which adds weight to every headphone, these boys dig and dig deep. The rumble is healthy without ever overstaying its welcome. Attack and decay are superb and better than any other headphone i have head. They will sound light the first time you take your Beyers off and put these on. But then, every other time you put your Beyers on, they (the beyers) will sound bloated. Gaming with these is insane as well; BF6, Medavec Mile; I could hear someone trying to flank my mountain perch, clearly and accurately, from below me and to my left. I was shocked. My favorite pairing with these, far and away, is with the Apos Gremlin and Merlin. I mean, its just music. Incredible detail, spacious sound full voices and just the right amount of polish on your instruments. Fact is, I wouldn't have know how great these are without the black friday sale. If these are in your budget, grab them and don't look back. It is a true pleasure to fire these up each and everyday. They are a little too hungry to reach great dynamics from a mobile device, and I would not run them on anything with less than 1 watt continuous. From a true music lover, Thank You Audeze!
