I recently purchased the ‘Oryx’
I recently purchased the ‘Oryx’ Antonio Full Quill Ostrich Boots from Gavel Western Wear after struggling to find my size in the ‘Sand Bruciato’ R. Watson Boots. The return policy at Gavel made me feel comfortable taking the chance, and I'm glad I did because it turned out to be a great decision.
Fit and Comfort:
These boots fit true to size. I typically wear a men's size 7 in sneakers, and the 7D in these boots was a perfect fit right out of the box—no break-in period required.
Quality:
The craftsmanship is impressive. You get everything you'd expect from a premium exotic boot: lemon wood pegs, leather soles and heel stack, and a Goodyear welt. The shaft is made of goatskin, which is thinner than traditional leather, but that was definitely intentional & I don’t mind that as it adds more to the comfort and mobility aspect & skips the break in period.
Minor Issue:
My only complaint (very minor) is about the midsole's finish. I bought these expecting an unfinished, natural midsole (refer to second photo), but they arrived with a dark brown painted finish instead. I contacted Gavel about this, they explained they were updating their online photos and offered to check if they had any stock in my size to exchange for.
They didn’t end up having any leftover stock, but I was still very happy with the boots & kept them, as to me it wasn’t a big fuss. If I really wanted to I could just sand the paint off regardless. Undoubtedly though, their customer service was top notch & I definitely felt cared for.
Final Thoughts:
All in all, I’m very pleased with my purchase & just wanted to share my experience, as I couldn’t find many detailed reviews before buying. If you're considering purchasing from Gavel Western Wear, I highly recommend it. Great boots, great customer service!
