Feivel, a retired therapy dog, rediscovers The Honest Kitchen
At age 11, Feivel was diagnosed with a heart murmur. Subsequently, a persistent cough forced me to have him re-examined. It was found that he had an enlarged heart pressing against his trachea. Feivel is on medication for congestive heart failure since end of April, 2021, and is doing well.
His cardiologist insisted that his earlier grain-free diet be abruptly changed to one with grains. There is some evidence that a grain-free diet may cause cardiomyopathy in dogs.
His switch was to a prescription early cardiac diet kibble formulated by Royal Canine, consisting of basically chicken and rice. Feivel hated it.
Dr. Wiley gave me the option of switching to a kibble with grains from Blue Buffalo or another manufacturer, thinking that The Honest Kitchen sold only grain-free products.
While Feivel worked as a therapy animal, raw or other minimally processed foods were off limits to him, though on occasion he tried The Honest Kitchen when not volunteering.
Now that his therapy days are over, Feivel is currently on a diet of The Honest Kitchen dehydrated turkey with whole grains formula, mixed with water and the kibble from Royal Canin that he dislikes when served to him by itself.
Once we use up the remaining Royal Canin Rx food, Feivel will be on The Honest Kitchen.
After using up the dehydrated formula he will begin consuming The Honest Kitchen clusters of chicken with whole grains!!!!
Thank you Honest Kitchen for coming to the rescue!!!!!!!!!!
I can't thank you enough!
