Impressed
Over the last 17 years I have tried a lot of different kibble brands for my pug. Two things were a consistent issue: taste and weight gain. He won’t even get close to most kibble so I have to add toppers - typically fresh veggies or homemade stew. Even with a healthy topper and an active lifestyle (little mountain climber) weight gain has always been an issue.
A few years back we had a series of health issues and the solution was to make his food, no kibble. We got his weight and arthritis under control.
Kibble makes travel easier so I would browse the pet food isles periodically. When I found Honest Kitchen I was impressed by the ingredients. I purchased a small bag and and offered a piece as a treat. The pug is very picky and turns his nose up at all kibble and most dog treats. I was shocked when he gobbled it up and wanted more.
I did a bunch of googling to dig up any dirt on the company (too good to be true, right?) Nope, I couldn’t find any recalls or negative reviews, which was a first. Since then I have been regularly feeding HK kibble as part of his diet. He has maintained his weight and still goes nuts over it as a snack. The pug had had a lot of dental work in his life and is down quite a few teeth. The texture of the kibble is light and easy for him to chew. I add a little water to kibble at mealtime (he forgets to drink water) and his bowel movements are healthier than ever.
I am extremely impressed with the food and relieved to have something that is easy to pack as summer approaches. To be honest, the pug is as close to a kid as I will get, so I am very picky about his health and nutrition. It’s hard to watch them get older but I find a lot of comfort in knowing I do my best for him. Finding the best foods and supplements is very important to me to maintain his quality of life. I rarely find a product I love this much, but I have been recommending HK to everyone with dogs. Those who have tried it out have been equally impressed by the ingredients and their dogs love it too. Wish I would have found this food years ago.
